When considering using tracking, you must understand that everything at some point will be affected by data usage. The amount of data sent by a device will have an impact on the cost to you, as a consumer.
Reason for Tracking
The basic fundamental reason for tracking is to know where your vehicle or asset is in real time and to have the ability to look into the history and know where it was, anything above or beyond this, we classify as extra benefits. The thing to remember is some benefits will cost you more.
You can add things such as fuel sensors, temperature sensors, relays to turn vehicles off, cameras, speakers for voice connection; it is a long list of what can be done. Remember data usage though, because it will cost.
Certification and Standards
One of the most important things you should do, is make sure any tracking device you are thinking of purchasing is correctly certified and meets all the required standards. Internationally most standards have equivalents, but just because it has EU certification does not mean it is certified or meets standards in Australia or Asia. Suppliers should be able to give you copies of the certification if requested. (ie: A-Tick compliance is required in Australia).
What other Tracking providers offer
Many tracking providers charge approximately $30.00 per month for the service. For this they will provide a Sim Card and most track at 1 minute intervals. They will sell you a tracking device which will cost approximately $200 or more, then charge you to have the device installed. This setup would generally stay under 5mb of data usage per month. The more data you use the more it will cost you.
